Sally Hale grew up in Forest Park, a suburb of Atlanta. She attended Forest Park High School and graduated from Mercer University in Macon, GA.
For over 31 years she taught in the DeKalb County School System.
Sally Hale was my 3rd grade teacher, a family friend and someone I have known and stayed in tough with for over 35 years...
I emailed Miss Hale a few questions and here is her answers:
Why did you decide to go into teaching?
As a youngster I played school all the time. I have always loved children and feel I relate to them easily.
What was one of your greatest achievements in teaching?
In 1985 a student that I taught in second grade and was then a graduating senior chose me as his Star Teacher. I was in complete shock but very humbled. I still keep in touch with Drew and his family.
Who was your favorite Teacher?
My favorite teacher was my senior English teacher. She was very strict but I learned a lot. I kept up with her over the years. I am sad to say she past away a few years ago, but was a major influence in my life to this very day.
How would you sum up you teaching career in one word?
SUCCESSFUL
Is their a teaching memories that really stands out?
One of the most memories I have was working extra hard to teach a little fellow how to read and have a love for reading. His mom came to me toward the end of the school year to tell me when she went upstairs to tell him good night he was reading under the covers with a flashlight.
Though, I have hundreds more that I could share.
